Adobe Sparks

Adobe Sparks

I am always fascinated when I see cool videos and intrigued by them as well. I am always trying to make
my lessons more interesting and have my students create their own little projects as interesting as possible.
Adobe Sparks will change their lives! I like this new tech tool because my students can use the iPads I have
in my class. The computers that we have are so old that my students don’t like to use them. Therefore, I love
it when I can find educational websites and apps that can be used on the iPads.
I love it that my students can record their voices and bring anything that they wrote to life with cool images. This
will also help them with their editing part of the whole writing process. The editing part is the part that they struggle
with the most and this will make it fun, interactive and most of all it will bring their creative side out!

My Adobe Sparks Example

Since this is my first video, I wanted to create a video that would help my students be more successful in life. At our
school, we are focusing on executive functioning skills so I decided to create a short video about it. I’m not going to
go over all of them but the most important ones that I think my students would need in a daily basis. I started by writing
all the things I had in mind for the video. Then, I wrote down my script and how I would say it. I wanted to make sure I
create a video that would be helpful for my students to look at as many times as they need. Since they struggle with
working memory. Our students are constantly on survival mode and not on learning mode so I try to create a safe
environment that they can actually get to that learning mode.
I got some ideas from this video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZLXggsK6oA and I’ve got the definitions from
this poster that we have up on every classroom in my school.

Struggles

It took me a little to get used to the different themes and photos that I could add but overall it was pretty simple.
Everything was going well until I wanted to add some Youtube videos. So I had to google it and that took me a long time
to figure out. However, I couldn’t find an easy way to do this, plus I couldn’t download any of the third party tools that I
found online. I’m always a little hesitant with those. These programs would convert the Youtube videos into MP4s. I
wonder if there is another way? However, good news, I was able to find some old videos that were uploaded by other
teachers to teach our students about Executive Functioning Skills. Therefore, I was able to upload the videos but I couldn’t
find a way to play music only on certain slides and not all of them. Thus, I decide to leave my video without music.

I hope you enjoy my video as much as I enjoyed making it! - Sorry that it’s a little long :)

  1. Really enjoyed your video. It was very impressive how long you video was, as after creating one myself I can appreciate the difficulty associated with narrating a video. Good work!!

  2. Hi Elisabeth,

I love your video, and the Seinfeld SNL clip was hilarious!

I uploaded a video clip with no problems, but it was a video I took with my phone. It's too bad it's not easier to upload from youtube, because that is something I would definitely want to do.

  3. Executive Functioning Skills could become a video series. One way to work around the background music issue would be to create several shorter videos and then weave them back together in Spark. It is a little more work but you can achieve the desired effect.

First Blog EDU 585

First Blog Experience EDU 585 My personal experience creating a blog through www.blogger.com wasn't easy at all. I was trying to create a new blog in blogger.com through Google Chrome and it wouldn't let me. I was getting so frustrated that I decided to take a break and resume the following day. I am so glad I did since I was able to use internet Explorer and it finally worked. However, I tried to save my drafts through Blogger but it wouldn’t save anything! So I decided to save my draft in Google Docs. I don’t know if others had the same issues as me. In my opinion, it isn’t user friendly at all. I don’t like being this negative about it but I think Google Sites is easier and user friendlier than Blogger.   On the other hand, I really liked how I can add an image from a website (a unique resource locator) and it would automatically create a hyperlink so that people can click on that image and see exactly where it came from. Nevertheless, I know I run a risk of t...

Things I Know Now, That I Didn't Know Then

Before Starting EDU 585 I thought that I was pretty up-to-date with technology in general and as a learner I always tried to push myself to look for new ways I could to make my classes more interactive and student oriented. However, I would have a hard time sometimes figuring out some of the technology that was available out there all by myself. So when I heard I had to take EDU 585, I got excited because I knew that this course would provide me with more than what I was looking for. And it sure did. As a learner , I couldn’t wait to master new ways I could help my students not only reach their goals but also I couldn’t wait to try new technology that would help me as an educator, and reflect on them on a daily basis. What I gained and What I know Now Once I started taking this course, I realized how behind I was with all the technology that is currently available for educators. Looking through my blog posts, I realized how much I’ve learned by taking this cl...

Trying Canva

“Design Anything. Publish Anywhere” After reading Katie’s blog post . I decided to give Canva a try. I like to try new things and push myself to learn new ways I can teach more effectively. I think Canva will be a great teaching tool to use in my classrooms. Katie does a great job explaining what Canva is so please feel free to click on her post to learn more about it. Basically, Canva is a graphic design tool that anyone can use to make amazing designs for any kind of project you have in mind. It’s easy to use and what intrigued me the most was that you can make your presentations look amazing and professional without paying money. However, there are fonts or images and other things that Canva might charge you for but they aren’t too expensive. My Experience with Canva I started by linking my Google account with Canva. It was super easy and straightforward to do. As a side note, Katie’s video helped me a lot and also I found this other video that I liked as w...
